Prep to Year 2 Curriculum

At St Albans East Primary School, our Prep to Year 2 students learn through the Victorian Curriculum, which provides the foundation for developing strong literacy, numeracy, social, and personal skills.

The early years of schooling are a critical time in a child’s development. Our teaching programs focus on building confidence, independence, curiosity, and a love of learning through engaging and purposeful classroom experiences. Students are supported to develop the essential skills needed for future success while learning in safe, inclusive, and supportive environments.

A strong emphasis is placed on explicit teaching in the areas of:

  • Reading and Phonics
  • Writing and Oral Language
  • Numeracy and Mathematical Thinking
  • Social and Emotional Development

Students also participate in a broad range of specialist and curriculum areas including:

  • AUSLAN
  • Physical Education
  • Visual Arts
  • STEM and Digital Technologies
  • Inquiry Learning

Our teachers use evidence-based teaching practices and ongoing assessment to monitor student progress and ensure learning is targeted to individual needs. Early intervention and extension opportunities are provided to support all learners to achieve growth and success.

At St Albans East Primary School, we believe strong partnerships between school and home are essential during the early years. We work closely with families to support students in building positive learning habits, confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
